POLYabs
POLYabs is Polykemi’s product family of ABS. POLYabs is a very useful thermoplastic with an excellent combination of mechanical and chemical properties and a low mold shrinkage. Polykemi offers a broad product range for injection molding and extrusion. POLYabs can be obtained as heat resistant, platable and flame-retarded grades. The material is delivered with high color accuracy. Typical applications for POLYabs are interior automotive, household and white goods components.
Raw material
ABS is an abbreviation of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. The plastic raw material is produced by copolymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile monomers in the presence of polybutadiene rubber. The composition of the three components controls the properties of ABS. Styrene contributes to the rigidity of the plastic, acrylonitrile to heat resistance and polybutadiene rubber gives the material its resilient properties. ABS is an amorphous plastic. Thus, it has a low mold shrinkage. ABS provides a glossy surface and advantageous pigmentation capabilities. ABS has a typical operating temperature between -20 ° C and 80 ° C. The material has some chemical resistance, but is not recommended for outdoor applications.
